Devotions ~ Tuesday 11/29

PROVERBS 13:16-22
v16 A wise man uses his understanding to act wisely.
A fool shows that he is stupid by his actions.
v17 A bad servant, who does not deliver a message, causes trouble.
But a responsible servant will deliver the message. Instead of worry, he gives health.
v18 If you refuse correction, then you will become poor. You will suffer shame.
If you accept correction, then people will respect you.
v19 It is good to receive what you desire.
Fools hate the idea that they should stop their evil behavior.
v20 If you walk with wise people, then you will become wise.
If fools are your friends, then you will suffer.
v21 Trouble is like an enemy who follows an evil man.
But the good man’s reward is success.
v22 A good man’s wealth provides for his grandchildren.
An evil man may store his wealth, but good men will benefit from it.

Verse 16
A wise person does not waste his knowledge. He loves knowledge, and he uses it well. He uses his knowledge to help other people. He uses his knowledge to stay safe. The wise man’s knowledge is like a workman’s tools. A fool has no understanding, so he makes the wrong decisions. Everyone can see this. Everyone realizes that this man is stupid.

Verse 17
If we are Christians, then we carry a message from God to the people of the world. This message is very important. We must always tell the truth. We must not keep God’s message as a secret. Our message, as Christians, is a good message. This message cures the spirits of men and women. This message will help people to know God. This message will protect them from evil plots. This message will teach the way to heaven. God loves the people from every country. He will forgive them, if they trust in him. These are all good things.

Verse 18
We are like soldiers in God’s army. We should learn discipline. Sometimes we make mistakes. God shows us that we are wrong. We must not refuse God’s correction. If we gladly accept God’s correction, then God will give honor to us.

Verse 19
When God blesses someone with good things, then that person is glad. The person is even happier if he has had to wait for these things. A fool is someone who refuses to respect God. He does not think to ask God for good things, because a fool hates God. The fool refuses to turn from evil, because he loves evil. A fool will not wait for good things. Instead, a fool wants evil things, now.

Verse 20
Choose your friends carefully! A person who is a friend of wise people, listens to them. Then, he learns from them, and he himself becomes wiser. In the same way, a friend of fools can suffer their troubles. If your friends do not love God, then think about this. You need to bring God’s message to your friends. You must refuse to do evil things, if they test you. You should also have wise, Christian friends. They will help you to become a strong Christian.

Verse 21
Trouble is like an enemy who follows an evil man. The enemy will catch the evil man and attack him. This means that an evil person will suffer his punishment. He cannot escape it.
But success is like a friend who follows a good man. The good man will succeed. God will make sure of this.

Verse 22
A good man’s success helps other people. He will be able to help his children. He will even be able to help his grandchildren. An evil man tries to copy this. He stores his money. He thinks that he is very wealthy. But he cannot benefit from his great wealth. When he dies, he will lose it all. In the end, everything belongs to God. See Luke 12:16-21.

OK You all know that I smoke. That I used to smoke pot, and that I've drank too. I've found out that once I told some of you, you started to ask me a lot of questions. So if anyone wants to present any more questions, here's your chance. Oh yeah, I'm gonna try to stop smoking(Sorry Stephanie, it wasn't that easy).

Just to be clear :-)

I've heard that some of you were concerned with Pastor Jim's comment Wednesday night about he and I not editing the blog....

I know there were a number of comments that would show up as "comment deleted" - but we didn't delete them! Whoever wrote the comment went back in and deleted it.

So - Pastor Jim's not a liar :-) We want to honor what you guys have to say...and well, we can't help it when the Holy Spirit convicts someone that their words may not be appropriate :-)

Happy Friday!!

The Words of El Shaddai

Something God's been laying on my heart....Love you guys!

Everyone longs to give himself completely to someone, to have a deep soul relationship with another, to be loved thoroughly and exclusively. But God to a Christian says, "No, not until you are satisfied, fulfilled, and content with being loved by Me alone, with giving yourself totally and unreservedly to Me; having an intense personal and unique relationship with Me alone, discovering that only in Me your satisfaction is to be what I have planned for you. You will never be united with another until you are united with Me, exclusive of any other desires or longings. I want you to stop planning and allow Me to bring it to you. Just keep watching Me, expecting the greatest thing. Keep experiencing the satisfaction that I AM. Keep listening and learning the things I tell you. Just wait, that's all.

Don't be anxious. Don't look at the things you want. Just keep looking off and away up to Me, or you'll miss what I want to show you. And then, when you're ready, I'll surprise you with a love far more wonderful than you would dream of. You see, until you are ready (I am working this moment to have both of you ready at the same time), until you're both satisfied exclusively with Me and the life I have prepared for you, you will not be able to experience the love that exemplifies your relationship with Me, and thus the perfect love. Dear One, I want for you to have this most wonderful love. I want you to see in the flesh a picture of your relationship with Me; and to enjoy materially and correctly the everlasting union of beauty, perfection, and love that I offer you with myself. Know that I love you utterly. I am El Shaddai, the God Almighty. Believe it and be satisfied."

Big C

agian i'd like to stress that us christians are really really like jedis. in some places we are presecuted, others feared, loved, and hated. we live our lives in a world of unbelief, sin of the charts, and temptation out the wazoo. but we all, even the lost, are all searching, searching for that real, face to face encounter that takes and drains all the faith, believe, knowlge, wisdom, everything. even though we've been saved and even baptised we still search, always searching, for meaning and prpose, humans, we need physical proof/encounter. its how everything goes now scince-need proof for that, math-reasoning, history-proof, anything! we are tmpted in EVERY choice we make even EVERY thought we have is filled with temptation, we can only take so much. like me i CANNOT WAIT any longer i want a career, a LIFE, a family (ok maybe not like THAT) , a consistent, active, whole, pure life with god, but im being held back, and i dont know what it id thats holding me back. lack of enjoyment, no serving myself before others, not praying enough, not believing enough, unstable family, poverty, not knowing where im going with my life, i just dont know. gosh it sounds like im going though my mid-life crisis at 14 instead of 41. lol but life doesnt stop and we have to keep going and hope we dont miss our stop, when we dont know what or where that stop is. i wanted to say thanks to ALL of you guys and gals for seriously changing my life around and i think something to live and strive for.

New blog

Hey you guys, sup. Check out my new blog.
Put a post up or comment on one. PEACE

Alicia Coon....Carolyn Siovaila....and Stephanie Porter

So to continue on with Pastor Jim's challenge to encourage one another....I'd like to present three incredible young women:

Alicia Coon - This girl can pray the house down! God has sooo given you a heart to reach out to others and show them why they are valued and loved. You easily and cheerfully step up to the plate to help lead things...and you are particularly awesome with some of the younger (i.e., junior high) girls. I love to see you reaching out to new people when they come in on Wednesday nights!! Keep seeking guidance from Him and opportunities to lead both in the youth ministry and at school!

Carolyn Sioviola - Whenever I see you, you have a smile on your face and you're ready to help out in any way that you can! I LOVE hearing you talk about the relationship you have with your mom, I wish I had the wisdom to understand how amazing my mother is when I was your age! You are such an encouragement to others, and always have meaningful things to say in our group discussions. I really appreciate your willingness to help out and serve others!

Stephanie Porter - I know you've been busy lately with the play, but can I tell you how exciting it was to see you again last night?! Your enthusiasm and free-spirit are refreshing in our youth group! I love the heart you have for others - I think it's incredible how, when faced with a problem, your first thought is to take it to the cross! Thanks for setting that example for all of us! I love watching you and Beth interact as sisters - having 2 incredible sisters myself, I often see us in the two of you. Keep pushing each other closer to Christ!! As you face crazy decisions this year, keep looking to Him for guidance!

We as leaders really appreciate your faithfulness to our youth group and your willingness to step out of your comfort zone to get to know the Lord better! I love to see you each loving the Lord so much! I pray that God will provide for each of you, situations where you can use the gifts He has given you to bring glory to His name!

What God is asking

Hi all,

So tonight I got home from church and started thinking about what God was trying to say from the messages Pastor Jim has been preaching and just from the movements I have seen going around in the body of Christ. We've been talking about where we get our affirmation from, who we are going to serve. And I think the point God wants to know is this. Will I, will YOU, forsake all other gods, are we willing to follow God with EVERYTHING within us - all of our heart, soul, mind and strength. In my own life I have been wrestling with God for control over my heart, will I live COMPLETELY for Him, will I focus my the entirety of my life to do His good will? And after a lot of praying, I made my choice like Joshua did, "as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." God is telling YOU, "if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve." Joshua 24:15 This is what God is asking you, it's what Satan is asking you, will you fall into his temptations, or will you place your entire trust in the Lord God?

Choose. Today.

Sunday, November 6

These are two quotes I read in a book called The Barbarian Way. Both were quite thought provoking and challenging. "To have the Spirit of God dwelling within the heart of someone who chooses a domesticated faith is like having a tiger trapped within a cage. You are not intended to be a spiritual zoo where people can look at God in you from a safe distance. You are a jungle where the Spirit roams wild and free in your life."

And, "I'm happy to say that while Jesus can wonderfully make you healthy, He has no ambition to make you normal. The healthier you become, the freer you are to simply be yourself. the more your identity is rooted in God's value for you, the less you are controlled and limited by what others think of you."

So, im sittin here in school and im thinkin about this thing thats been buggin me out all day. If there is a basket with 20 apples in it and there are 20 students. Each student takes an apple. How is there still one apple in the basket. Think about it and PEACE

Here's What I Like About You . . .

A few weekends ago, all of us adult leaders gathered for a retreat. It was awesome! We ate like pigs, worshipped God, and prayed. One of my favorite moments was when we gathered around the fire for several hours and talked about you all as individuals. We began to share stories of each one of you. We bragged about you and your gifts and abilities. God began to open up our understanding of how much He has invested into your lives. It became so apparent to us that He has blessed us with an extraordinary group of young people with such unique and powerful gifts for the Body of Christ. So, at the risk of embarassing anyone, I am going to begin sharing some of those things about each of you. If you have anything encouraging you would like to add, please do. Okay, so let me pick on Cody Perkins. Wow! Where to begin with such a great guy. Cody it is so obvious that God has crafted you into a man after His heart. You possess a unique ability to encourage people with the simplest smile. Your warm and generous heart affect everyone around you. It seems clear to me that you are very hungry for God's Word and His presence. If I ever needed a TRUE and LASTING friend, you would be that friend. I've seen God use your hands to serve people tirelessly and quietly. I love it that you seek no attention or the approval of men. Thank you for what you bring to my life and the life of our youth group.

Thursday, November 3

I just wanted to thank ALL of you for being so awesome to Kayla last night!! I've been reading the postings about how, as a group, we sometimes struggle to bring in new people and help them feel welcome and accepted...but last night you all rocked!! Bringing new foster kids to church with me is sometimes difficult because I never know how they are going to feel, especially teenages who haven't ever gone to church before, but Kayla couldn't stop talking about how much she loved it! She thought the service was great and that all of you were awesome! Thank you all so much...she has lost a lot these last few months, and I know she has really missed having friends to talk to and just hang out with. made SUCH an impact on her! I don't think you all understand how loudly your lives speak to others about who God is...the way you live your life for God alone speaks louder than anything else, and that was so obvious to her! She's been begging to come back, but unfortunately I don't know if that will be possible now because she had to move today and isn't living in town, but we'll see what happens. I just wanted to thank all of you for being so awesome...I think you are the greatest youth group alive!!

He's Calling Us!

Hey guys! I get this daily prayer thing on email from my sister's church back home....thought I would share today because it's pretty relevant to what we talked about last night!! Enjoyed worshipping with you all - have a great day!!

“For you shall go out [from the spiritual exile caused by sin and evil into the homeland] with joy and be led forth [by your Leader, the Lord Himself, and His Word] with peace; the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.” Isaiah 55:12 (AMP)

Lord, there is no beauty and joy in the desolate places of separation from you. Yet so many of us have found ourselves there, broken and alone, seeking to find something or someone to lead us out. Perhaps we found temporary joy or solace in people, activities, or even substances, but those joys always vanished like mirages in the vast desert wasteland where we lived. But it was there we found you. When there was nothing else left, we heard you calling us from the hills above us. As we stepped cautiously toward you, like a glorious moment of reunion, the hills suddenly broke forth into singing and the trees applauded and cheered! We had found our way home!May we never forget Lord, the glorious day you led us forth from our places of exile and into the promised land of eternity with you. And on those days when we are weak or discouraged and look back, may your Word and your presence shift our eyes to the hills once more. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.

“I lift up my eyes to the hills--where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1-2 (NIV)
